Chirawa

Chirawa town is one of the most happening place in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. Chirawa is also birthplace of many business magnets belonging to the Marwari community. Heritage havelis with fresco paintings, famous sweets like Chirawa Peda and Rasgulla are few other things which adds up to Chirawa’s identity.

The history of Chirawa is interesting enough. This small place gave us few of the most successful businessmen of India. Birla, Khemka, Dalmia, Bagaria, Piramals, Sheikhsaria, Maheshwari, Khaitan, Poddar and many other renowned business families of independent India emerged from in and around Chirawa. These families have not only gained name and fame for themselves but also brought Chirawa on the map of modern India.

Spirituality is another aspect which keeps thriving in the narrow lanes of Chirawa. The town is also known as Chhoti Kashi due to many temples. Temples of Pandit Ganesh Narayan Ji popularly known as Bawaliyo Pandat, Gugo Ji and Jain temple are some of the famous ones of Chirawa.

Location & Geography: Chirawa is situated in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan state of India. The geographical location of Chirawa is between the road connecting Pilani and Jhunjhunu Towns. However one can take the road from Delhi to Chirawa via Rewari and Narnaul towns of Haryana to reach here avoiding the Pilani route. On geographical scale the town is situated in the Northern plains of  India with small touch of the Great Thar desert. Yes, you can find small sand dunes in this area.  In the interiors of Chirawa town, one can witness lined up grand mansions painted nicely with the Shekhawati fresco art.

Education: Chirawa is also known as educational hub of this part of Rajasthan, as the oldest degree college .i.e. Chirawa College of this region was established here in the British era. Chirawa College has produced number of distinguished personalities in all these years. The other known educational institution of Chirawa is Dalmia Girl’s School, which is spearheading the female education in the region for many decades. There are many other private institutions which are there to provide best of the educational resources to the town and region itself.

Chirawa Peda: Sweets made in Chirawa are in high demand across the country, especially the Peda made of mawa and sugar is the popular one. Other than Peda; Rasgualla, Bhujia and Papad are the other famous produces of Chirawa sweet shops. Migrated residents of Chirawa had their supplier arrangements and established chains to assure the availability of these local delicacies at their new homes in Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad and other major cities of India and rest of the world.

How to Reach Chirawa: As mentioned above Chirawa is well connected by road from Jaipur and New Delhi, the approximate time to travel to Chirawa from Jaipur or Delhi is 5 hours. Condition of the road is good enough compared to average driving experience in India. Railway service is also available in Chirawa from the colonial era, the rail route of Jaipur-Delhi via Ringus-Sikar-Jhunjhunu-Loharu passes through Chirawa. 

Tourist Advisory: The best season to visit here is during Indian winters (Oct-March), summer trips are not advised for westerners and those who spend most of the time of whole year in cold weathers. There are good options available to stay in nearby Bagar, Pilani and Jhunjhunu along with few budget lodges in Chirawa town itself. If one is planning just a day’s visit to the town with a base stay in some heritage hotel of the Shekhawati region is a great idea. The ample time required to visit the town is 1-2 days at maximum.

    Though I am born and brought up in Mumbai, my father hails from the family of my great grandfather Shri Surajmalji Sultania. I have been visiting my native almost every year on the occasion of Janamastmi to visit Bharonda at Baba Puroshattamdasji temple. It indeed is a great place with a history of the rise of some very renowned business tycoons like the Birlas, Seksarias and the Dalmias.
    And also important to mention the names of the great Navratnas namely:
    1. Shri Snehiram Maharaj – Great Astrologer.
    2. Ramji Lalji Shastri – Great Sanskrit pandit.
    3. Shri Suryamal Shivprasad – The great millionair who funded the construction of Laxman Jhoola and many dharamshalas at various piligrimage places in northen India.

    5. Seth Shri Doolichand Kakrania – The multi millionaire with an attitude who served tea to Queen Victoria made on a stove lighted with currency.
    6. Shri Nanulal Rana – Was master of Rajasthani games.
    7. Mokram Khati – Known for his ability to make witty jokes.
    8. Shri Siru Sunda – The man with great physique and a body builder.
    9. Shri Ganeshnarayanji (Bawalya Baba) – The great Saint who recognised the true potential of the Birlas and forecasted that the 7 generations of Birlas shall be business tycoons.
